Las Vegas is not ordinarily known for its activism. Gambling, yes. Glitz and glamor, yes. Strippers, yes. But what about Peace Activists?
At the First Annual Las Vegas Peace Festival hundreds of Las Vegans gathered to celebrate peace, and set a new standard for Sin City. The Box Office, located in the art district of Las Vegas, hosted the event on Saturday, October 13th. With a combination of live music, interactive mural painting, tree dedicating, body paints, art displays, compassionate speeches, and a lot of dancing, the festival proved to be a success.
The crowd was a mixture of all age groups and ethnicities, and attendees came together for a common cause: Peace. It was more of a celebration than a rally, somewhat of a birthday party for peace. Sadly, peace has yet to be born in much of the world. But that did not stop the people from dancing and sharing their loving vibes on the crisp October evening, if anything it motivated them to dance harder and share more love. While the political leaders of the world chant their mantras of more war and exploitation, small communities like the one flowering in Las Vegas are creating a chorus of peaceful voices for the world to hear. Lets hope there are more Peace Festivals to come, and not just in Las Vegas, but worldwide.
