Stop Genocide Now / i-ACT Campaign
Dear Friends and Familia:
We are getting ready once again to travel to the Chad-Dafur border and visit the refugee camps. The mission for our project, i-ACT (interactive-activism), is to use the power of the Internet to put a face to the mind-numbing numbers of dead, dying, and displaced.
We depart Los Angeles for Chad on July 7, and Day 1 of i-ACT will be July 10.
By going to www.StopGenocideNow.org , you will see the human face of this ongoing crisis, through daily video field-reports and blog. Most importantly, i-ACT connects the surviving victims of this genocide with you and the people that want to help, creating an interconnected community. Relationships between individuals, families, and communities will lead to deeper understanding, commitment, and positive change in Darfur.
Finally, as a grassroots movement that strongly encourages the ongoing creative participation of everyone touched by this genocide, we invite you to become a member of our team. There are several ways to become actively involved, each one equally important:
1. Offer your time and talents. i-ACT can have a much greater reach with your support in any and all of the following areas: a) Technical support, such as basic web design and experience web-based video. b) News-media outreach. c) Community outreach. d) Administrative help. e) Your own strengths and area of expertise.
2. Tell at least five people a day about the ongoing genocide in Darfur and direct them to our website. Encourage them to meet and interact with the people of Darfur and the i-ACT team on the ground.
3. Tell two people to contact their local, state, and federal representatives daily for the entire i-ACT journey and encourage them to "say it forward" to two more people. Encourage your local place of worship, book club, or softball team to become active participants in i-ACT. Forward to all the number to call the White House and members of Congress: 1 800 GENOCIDE. There will also be a daily call to action, starting July 10, the first day of i-ACT.
4. Host a viewing party and encourage relatives in different communities to do the same.
5. Contribute financial support to the i-ACT3 trip at www.StopGenocideNow.org. Every penny helps and goes directly to stopping this genocide before it is too late. Although this is the method of participation we consciously focus on the least, it enables our team to put a face to the numbers by going to where the survivors are and bringing them, through technology, home.
I look forward to hearing from you while we're out visiting the camps. See you soon!
Paz,
Gabriel
